30 Day Video Game Challenge
Day Twenty-One: Game with the best story The Prince of Persia trilogy Just to clarify, I am talking about the trilogy (now with a between-quel) that started with The Sands of Time. I really wish I had the time to go into detail about every single twist that made this series so brilliant. Every character I loved, every weapon that kicked ass. But I don’t. Cause I work. Maybe someday...

Day Twenty: Favourite Video Game Genre Anyone who’s been following this already knows the answer. Role-Playing Games Not MMOs. There is a big difference. If I could find an MMO that pulls me in, I’d probably play it. But I really haven’t. I love role-playing games because I love a story. I don’t like a story fueled by war or drug dealing or cars….I love a story...

3 Days Later… Day Nineteen: What video game world would you love to live in? Kingdom Hearts II : Twilight Town Twilight Town is a pretty simple place, with neighbours who seem to be nice and it’s always Twilight there. I love that. I really don’t feel I need to get into extreme detail about why I’d love to live somewhere. It’s quiet, there are nice people,...

Day Eighteen: Your favourite protagonist Jak This moves back to the wholeconcept of a silent hero who takes on the challenge regardless of any consequences. What I love about Jak is he not only has a dark side, he has a lighter side too. In other words, Jak is balanced. He’s not self-righteous. He can see things from the darker perspective. Also. Daxter.

Day Seventeen: Who is your favorite villain? Sephiroth I’m not ashamed to say it. He’s a heartless bastard and I love it. Who doesn’t love the cold, relentless villain who tries to take over the world with an absurdly long, badass sword? The bizarre circumstances of his birth and early life point to him being the Anti-Christ of the FF7 Universe (I’m just sayin’),...

Day Sixteen: Video game with the best cutscenes Final Fantasy X Yeah, you saw it coming. I could just say that the game with the best cutscenes is whatever Square has most recently put on the market. I know the idea of Square being the greatest animation company is subject to intense debate, but my opinion is what counts here. And my opinion is that the cutscenes from Final Fantasy X were...

Day Fourteen: What is your latest video game wallpaper? This: I am such a fan of Aqua. She is a fantastic example of the Lady of War. She’s composed, graceful, skilled and has the best female costume in the whole damn series! She is, in my opinion, the strongest of the original female characters. Bar none. Also, I really love this picture.

Day Thirteen: A game you’ve played more than five times. Seriously? Should I list them? How about I list my top 3: 3. Final Fantasy XII 2. Final Fantasy X 1. Kingdom Hearts II For each and every one these, the main reason I love them is because I can relate to the theme of the game. A relatable (or well-told) story will pull me in so much more than amazing graphics or ass-kicking...

Day Twelve: A game everyone should play Ratchet and Clank I’m really refraining from overloading this challenge with everything Square. It makes it more challenging. Ratchet and Clank is a third person shooter game that moves through its universe with an RPG format. The game is really clever and challenging. It incorporates difficult jumps and other movements while actually shooting. I...

Day Eleven: What is your favourite console? “Major” consoles: PlayStation I listed that as PlayStation and not PS2 or PS3 because to me the Sony PlayStation kicks complete ass regardless of the generation. I’m not the type to get into arguments about the specs of a console. I’m only interested in games and graphics, the PS always has the games I’m looking for and...

Day Ten: Which game has the best gameplay Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones Goddamn, I love this game. It has one of the best storylines in my opinion as well. Between the improved acrobatics of the Prince and the introduction of stealth as a regular feature of gameplay, I’ve never enjoyed movement in a game more than in Two Thrones. I also loved the addition of the Dark Prince...

Day Nine: The saddest video game scene Aerith dies. I’m not the biggest Aerith fan. She’s a strong character and she plays a very real role in the original FF7, but I feel that over the course of time fans began to beatify her and that eventually became canon. Aerith was never just a saintly sweetheart, she had a streak of badass in her just like every FF7 girl did. The thing about...

Day Eight: Best Video Game Soundtrack Kingdom Hearts 2 At first, I was thinking of FF X-2, but in comparison with its original, all it really had in the way of soundtrack material was a couple pop songs. KH2 on the other hand dropped that and a new (amazing) instrumental track for every new world they visited. The original world always had the best ones too. Yoko Shimomura is a genius.

Day Seven: Favourite video game couple At first I was thinking Riku and Kairi of Kingdom Hearts, but since they’re not canon: The Prince and Farrah These two are one of the best examples of a couples that can last throughout a series that doesn’t rely too heavily on a romance. They have a certain dynamism that keeps them from being one-dimensional.

So I sat down and watched it last night. I really liked it, actually and it might just beat out Glee season 2 for my favour. One real comment though. Emily flirting with Darren?

Day Six: Most annoying video game character Rikku Oh Rikku, I want to love you. And in X, I really did. But by the time X-2 came around, you were no longer the witty intelligent young girl of the original. . You were a generic Genki Girl, a dumb blonde even, and got on my last goddamn nerve with all the gibberin’ in the background. Don’t worry. I still love you. Only, slightly...

Day Three: A game that is underrated Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones I should note that I think that this whole damn series is underrated, but the only one I’ve played all the way through is this one. Day Two: Your favourite character Link.  I’ve always really admired the silent hero archetype. Link doesn’t have some personal emotional mission to embark on that might distract him. He does what he does while looking at the bigger picture. Link is a legacy that has passed down, but the new Link is more or less the same as the original. Link is a character that players can easily...

Breaking Dawn is a null plot Story!
It doesn’t deserve a two-part film finale because it was barely a one-part novel. (And I’m not referring to the book being split in three- which I will get to.) The book had seven plot points: Bella and Edward get married. Bella and Edward have sex. Bella gets pregnant and has a baby. Jacob is a pedo. The Volturi are coming. A bunch of vamps and werewolves get together. NOTHING...

30 Day Video Game Challenge: Day One
Day One: What was your very first video game? Growing up, I remember playing a lot of old school Mario and Donkey Kong games. The first game I ever played on a console I owned was Disney’s Tarzan game for PlayStation. (We were a little late on the video game scene at my house.) I recall the game having serious crappy graphics and wicked cool vine surfing scenes. There was a mini-mission...

Artists apologizing for their work...
Doesn’t make any sense to me. If you were satisfied enough with your work to think that despite its flaws, negative implications and even corrupted message to release it unto the unsuspecting public then you should be able to suck it up when your risque piece is criticized.  Frankly, if you couldn’t realize from earlier on that the shit you put out there had some kind of message you...

TV Tropes on Shuffle: Fridge Brilliance
How about I share these every once in  awhile? Here’s one from Doctor Who: “The Doctor’s Wife” : In “The Doctor’s Wife”, Idris who has bee implanted with the consciousness of the Doctor’s TARDIS, kisses the Doctor when she first sees him. While this is understandable considering their connection, to me there was a little bit of Fridge...
